Southridge Mall Grand Re-Opening

Well, technically "grand opening" or even "grand re-opening" isn't entirely correct, since some of Southridge Mall's stores never had to close during the extensive remodeling that has taken place this past year. You know what we mean, though, and since there will be many new shops opening up it's still a big deal for the south side.

The official ribbon cutting ceremony begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 10th, but some stores are open now, including Footlocker, Kay’s Jeweler’s, rue 21 and T-Mobile. The entire community is invited to this free event to inaugurate the new outdoor plaza outside of Younkers, with 100,000 square feet of brand-new retail space. The first 200 guests will receive an exclusive VIP gift bag and one randomly chosen winner will receive a $250 gift card.

The day's events include engaging kids’ activities and family entertainment from ACTS Entertainment, as well as face painters, animals from the Blank Park Zoo and community performances. Des Moines' own singer-songwriter Jason Brown will perform at 1 p.m. in the newly opened Southridge Plaza Shops. Throughout the day, activities are slated for the entire property, including the interior West End Shops and the new Plaza Shops.

Also on Nov. 10th, Southridge will host a special Flea Market and Craft Show beginning at 10 a.m. Guests can get a jump start on holiday shopping with local vendors offering handmade crafts and seasonal decor as well as unique one-of-a kind gifts.

"Today’s celebration is just the first of many for the new Southridge," said Scott McMurray, lead developer for Macerich who has helped spearhead the new direction for the property. "This has been an outstanding team effort for the Southridge team, the City of Des Moines and the local community. We are looking forward to bringing more exciting new names and new energy to the retail mix, and we are proud to host this community celebration."
